Bad Idea-Kundalini Yoga Before Bedtime
Oh, boy I find falling into asleep almost impossible again after doing Kundalini Yoga just before bed. I took 4 pills of Melatonin that is often effective in relaxing and getting me falling into sleep; no effect. Until after 4am, I finally dozed off to sleep.
The reason why I doubt Kundalini yoga as the culprit of my insomnia is that if I stop doing Kundalini yoga, I might have difficulty falling into asleep, but the situation can be remedied with just 1 pill of melatonin.
Different from other types of yoga, Kundalini yoga involves rigorous tummy breathing-called breath of fire, and third-eye gazing mentally. Rapid and rigorous breath of fire can quickly energize sluggish body, heighten alertness. It is no surprise that it contributes to insomnia.
Given its energizing and invigorating nature, Kundalini yoga is best practiced in the morning, at the latest before 4pm. It should be treated as coffee, no coffee and no kundalini yoga after mid-afternoon if you do not wish to churn and turn at bedtime.
